but these similar borrowers just need a little more help to reach their goals!

A loan helped to purchase an additional loom for the business and a variety of threads.

Las Responsables De Pozo V Group's story

At the age of 25, Maria has a business weaving traditional skirts called "cuts", and works on her wooden loom. She is a married woman and mother of two children aged four months and four years. Because she grew up in a family with financial limitations, Maria was unable to study.

Weekly, Maria has the ability to make and deliver 3 "cuts". Maria is the president of the Communal Bank of Puente de Amistad “Las Responsables de Pozo V”, in a rural area of the Department / State of Quiché. Maria is currently applying for her first loan from KIVA to purchase an additional loom for the business and a variety of threads.

Maria joins six other women and together they benefit from monthly meetings where a facilitator speaks to them in their own Mayan K'iche language. The facilitator of the institution gives training based on useful everyday topics such as business, health, family, women. Tools women acquire, such as planning, budgeting, and investing, help them with their traditional small textile businesses. Every two months, women have access to services like blood pressure tests, pap smears, and family planning. Puente de Amistad calls for the combination of loans, education and medical care "Microcredit Plus". (The children in the photograph are children of the borrowers).

Thank you, KIVA lenders, for learning about Maria and her peers. They appreciate your kindness and generosity!
