Rose's loan finished fundraising,
but these similar borrowers just need a little more help to reach their goals!

A loan helped to buy nutrient-rich fertilizers and hybrid seeds to improve the quality of her farm products and increase her income.

Rose's story

Rose is a 60-year-old mom of five. She always wears a golden smile on her face. She is a borrower who feels that Kiva lenders have fuelled hope into her life. Through continuous involvement in crop and animal farming, Rose is able to provide a meal for her family three times a day. She is also able to pay school fees for her children in school.

Access to modern, quality farm inputs is the pillar of the agricultural revolution. However, in Kenya, a developing country, fertilizers and seed allocation by the government is way below the needs of farmers. Since Juhudi Kilimo, which is in partnership with Kiva, ventured into the affairs of smallholder farmers in Kenya, farmers can attest that there has been a significant improvement in input availability.

Due to various farm practices, such as mono-cropping and continuous cropping, Rose's farm soil has lost its fertility. She is requesting this loan so that she can buy nutrient-rich fertilizers and hybrid seeds to use on her farm. She believes that these inputs will help her improve her farm yield and therefore increase her income level.

Rose is confident that she will be able to repay her loan and expand her farm. This loan will surely empower this hardworking woman.
