Mak's story

Mak is 64 years of age and has eight children living with him in Preah Sdach district, Prey Veng province. To be able to fulfill his family’s needs, Mak is involved in the cultivation of rice on his own farmland of few hectares. He sells the agricultural products in the local market. Everyday, Mak is planting and supplying enough seeds and fertilizers to rice crops and other agriculture crops by spending more than 8 hours everyday at the farm lands. The farming business is the main source of his family's economic. With his hard effort, he can earn approximately of USD 7 per day that he will use to pay for daily meals, clothes, and medicine.

Currently, Mak’s family doesn't have a safe latrine for use at home, so he wants to build a household latrine to improve their sanitation and personal hygiene. For this reason, he has requested a loan of USD 2,000 to build a household latrine and accessories.

The water loan program offered by HKL and Kiva with a special interest rate has encouraged him to focus on healthy living conditions, safeguarding the health of his family, and protecting the environment.
