A loan helped to buy pandanus for her weaving business and also to hire labour to help her husband with the harvesting of the kava.

Tupou's story

Meet Tupou. She is a 46-year-old mother of five from the island of Vava'u. Her husband is a farmer. Tupou runs a business of weaving and growing kava. She started weaving twenty years ago and she still keeps her business running. In 2018, they decided that they want to grow kava and create a new business to help her weaving. Therefore her husband takes full responsibility of taking care of their kava plantation and nurturing it.

Tupou used to weave on her own but she faced the problem of not finishing up customer's demand on time. Therefore she joined a group of five other women and together they weave almost everyday. This helps with her business. Tupou sells her mats at the local market and as for the kava, it is sold from out of their home. She is applying for a loan to buy pandanus for her weaving business and to also hire labour to help her husband with the harvesting of their kava plantation.
