A loan helped Felipa would like to restock the shelves of her convenience store.

Creativas Group's story

Convenience stores are found everywhere in rural Guatemala and community members depend on them to buy basic necessities like toilet paper, personal care products, canned foods, drinks, and snack foods. Felipa, who is 41 years old, has a popular store. Felipa was unable to have children but delights in her interaction with neighborhood children who visit the store to buy snacks and drinks. Felipa would like to offer more items in her store and restock the shelves. She is requesting her 2nd KIVA loan to buy an everyday inventory, as well as personal care products, snacks, and drinks at the wholesale level.

Felipa is the President of the Friendship Bridge Trust Bank “Creativas” in the department/state of Totonicapan. She and 7 other ladies appreciate participation in the “Microcredit Plus” program of Friendship Bridge. The ability to access capital, participate in monthly educational training and bi-monthly mobile health clinics gives these women opportunities to grow, sustain/grow their businesses and raise their families. Education for their children is important to them since most of the ladies have little or no formal education. Their educational sessions cover an aspect of 4 topics: business, health, family, women. Preventative health care services are essential for the women to have a successful business and life. (The child in the photograph is the son of a borrower.)

KIVA investors are an integral part of this life changing work. Thank you to each of you!
