A loan helped to purchase dress patterns for making new dresses.

Lydia's story

Lydia is 20 years old and lives in the town of Mubende, in the Mubende region, of Uganda. She is married and has 2 children with 1 currently in school. For the past 3 years, Lydia has been working hard to manage her tailoring business which makes clothing for sale.

To help expand her business, Lydia has requested a loan of 600000 Ugandan Shillings from BRAC Uganda. The loan will be used to purchase dress patterns for making new dresses. This will help Lydia to generate greater profits and improve her family standards of living by providing them with enough food and more basic needs. Lydia hopes that in the future she will be able to add more in her business and also buy a car.

Lydia is a member of BRAC's Empowerment and Livelihood for Adolescents (ELA) program. In addition to microfinance loans, the program provides both a safe place for young Ugandan women to take part in group activities, and a forum for life-skills training.
