A loan helped a woman entrepreneur be able to share her special bakery recipes with her community.
My love for baking starting when I was a child growing up on a dairy farm in rural Minnesota where along with all the “outside” chores, I started helping my mother in the kitchen as soon as I could reach the counters. I learned how to cook and bake from her and my grandmothers. I was involved in 4-H and when I won that first champion ribbon for a bread that I made…the passion was sealed! There was no grocery store around the corner since we were in the country, so there was always something cooking or baking in our kitchen like a cake or cookies in the oven made from scratch or us prepping for the next meal or canning vegetables from our large garden. The farm-family work ethic that was created then and a passion for food made from love has stayed with me all my life. I have had multiple jobs in my adult life. I have worked in the hospitality industry for 35 years full and part-time, and I also had a corporate job for the last 20 years. Two major things have brought me to where I am today: I moved to Arkansas in 2014 and am now back to living a farm life as I and my partner now are raising beef cattle. About a month ago, I lost my full-time job due to corporate downsizing in my industry. Being at crossroads in my life now and trying to decide “What do I want to be when I grow up?” I have decided it is time to finally follow my passion for baking quality, homemade goodies for people I love in my community, sharing with them my wonderful family recipes that have brought my family joy for decades.
