Shima's story

Shima is a refugee from the Democratic Republic of Congo. Married with 9 children, Shima his family have lived in the Nakivale Refugee settlement for over 5 years. During this period, Shima has been selling dried fish but has noted that his current income is not sufficient to sustain his household. He and his wife have decided that, that she will run the fish selling business while he starts a new income generating activity. As a former boda boda in the Democratic Republic of Congo, Shima seeks a loan to purchase a motorcycle and start the boda boda work. In Uganda, boda bodas offer reliable and cost-effective transport services to both rural and urban communities. Shima intends to carry out his boda boda work within Nakivale refugee settlement. Shima believes that this loan will enable him to generate a daily income that would support his household. Shima’s dream is to be able to provide his all children with an education.
