A loan helped to buy materials needs to build a latrine and pay for labor costs.

Samat's story

Samat, aged 34, is a married woman, and a lovely mother of three children who are attending school.

She and her husband help each other, working on a few hectares of farmland. She is an experienced farmer and has been in this occupation for more than 8 years.

She, as well as other villagers, is dedicated to her farming business, the common crop being rice. She and her husband manage the planting and harvesting of rice crops and are able to earn a moderate income to provide her children with their basic needs.

Samat aims to see her family living a healthy lifestyle and tries her best to increase their personal hygiene. She would like to have a latrine in her home because there isn't one there yet. Therefore, she has requested a 6,000,000 KHR loan that will enable her to buy materials needed to build a latrine and to pay for labor costs.

This loan will improve her general living conditions, promote the family's health, and help to lessen environmental deterioration.

Thanks to lenders making loans through a program like Kiva via its partner HKL, who are able to help low-income people gain access to sanitation and personal hygiene.
