but these similar borrowers just need a little more help to reach their goals!

A loan helped invest in the purchase of wholesale rhinestones in different colors and sizes.

Chitaracena Group's story

One of the ten members of the Communal Bank of Puente de Amistad "Chitaracena" is Santos, 48, who is dedicated to the business of sewing blouses and typical aprons. Santos's specialization is to decorate these traditional garments with colorful stones and colorful lace. She is a married woman who works from home with the purpose of attending domestic services and her 6 children over 7 years. The couple has generated enough income so that their children have a complete education. Santos needs to increase the inventory of the business and requests a 5th loan from Kiva to achieve it. She wants to buy wholesale rhinestones in different colors and sizes.

There are 10 women in this communal bank who live in a rural area of the department / state of Totonicapán. They speak Maya K'iche' and Spanish. The women are seamstresses, have cattle raising, small bakeries and textile businesses. Each month, the women expect to meet to make loan payments and participate in educational training as part of the microcredit program "Microcredit Plus" (loans, education and health care services). As they have little or no formal education, this training is essential for their success. They acquire basic commercial tools such as planning, budgeting, investment and savings. They also learn aspects of 3 other topics: health, family and women. Every two months, they have access to basic health care services.

Thank you for your contribution, Kiva lenders!
