Dorothy's loan finished fundraising,
but these similar borrowers just need a little more help to reach their goals!

A loan helped to buy more paper, glue and book covers.

Dorothy's story

Dorothy is 23 years old and lives in the town of Njeru in the Njeru region of Uganda. For the past 4 years, Dorothy has been working hard to manage her stationery business, which makes all kinds of exercise books.

To help expand her business, Dorothy has requested a loan of 2,000,000 Ugandan Shillings from BRAC Uganda. The loan will be used to buy more reams of paper, glue and book covers. This will help Dorothy to generate greater profits and to have a big stationery business for the whole town. Dorothy hopes that in the future she will be able to expand the stationery shop and open up another branch in a different town to add to her income.

Dorothy is a member of BRAC's Empowerment and Livelihood for Adolescents (ELA) program. In addition to microfinance loans, the program provides both a safe place for young Ugandan women to take part in group activities, and a forum for life-skills training.
