San Miguel Siguila Group's story
Many of the women who participate in the "Microcredit Plus" program of Puente de Amistad de Young began to carry out various trades that later became profitable businesses. This has been the case of Irma, 28, president of the Community Bank of Friendship Bridge “San Miguel Siguila”. She is of Mam ethnicity and lives in a rural area of the Department (state) of Quetzaltenango. Irma is married and mother of 2 children (3, 6). She received 6 years of education and knows that education is important to overcome in life. For this reason she sends her eldest son to kindergarten, and saves for the education of her youngest son. Four years ago, Irma saw in the animal husbandry business an opportunity to earn income. The business is growing and she needs a loan to increase capital. She is requesting the 2nd KIVA loan to buy chickens, pigs and food to feed them. There are 7 women in the communal bank who attended the first grades of the school. In spite of the little schooling, they advance thanks to the small businesses of raising animals, textiles, sewing, small restaurants and selling perfumes. Women are also benefited in monthly training, where they learn about business, health, family. Irma indicates “the topics on investment and budget, support me to bring my business to success. In addition to every 2 months I can perform various tests to find out how my health is. Is very good". Thank you KIVA lenders!
