A loan helped to purchase hybrid seeds and fertilizer for the cultivation of maize.

Mary's Group's story

Mary, pictured above, has been a farmer for 20 years, and is now proud to represent her group of five farmers in Kakamega B (North) District. She is 43 years old, married and has three children.

Mary likes to think of herself as a very hardworking individual. She has been working alongside One Acre Fund since 2015 and decided to represent her group because she wanted to be more active in her community. She says that being part of the One Acre Fund community has meant that she has had a healthier life due to better nutrition. Mary plans to use the profits from this coming season to save more money for the future.

In total, Mary’s Group will receive inputs to cultivate 2.25 acres of land. Given that a member of the group will also be purchasing a solar light, with this loan, the group will also receive 1 solar light.
