Alice's loan finished fundraising,
but these similar borrowers just need a little more help to reach their goals!

A loan helped to gain access to cost-efficient hybrid seeds and fertilizer for crop cultivation for this woman with a good credit history.

Alice's story

Taking a glimpse at Alice, a 35-year-old mother of 2 children, one would only see her successes but not the self-sacrifice and the ups and downs she has had to pass through. She is a smallholder farmer full of dreams and aspirations in her life. She resides in a remote village in the lush hills of the Kerugoya area of Kenya, in the central region of Kenya.

Thanks to her effort and dedication, Alice always has good milk and crop production. She works tirelessly every day of the week on her farm. This kind mother keeps dairy animals and grows a variety of crops. These are her main sources of income.

Access to modern-quality farm inputs is the pillar of the agricultural revolution. However, in Kenya, a developing country, fertilizer and seed allocation by the government is way below the needs of farmers. Since Juhudi Kilimo, which is in partnership with Kiva, ventured into the affairs of smallholder farmers in Kenya, farmers can attest that there has been a significant improvement in the availability of inputs.

Alice has decided to apply for a loan that she will use to buy farming inputs (certified seeds and nutrient-rich fertilizers) that she intends to use on her farm. This loan will surely change her life, as she will be able to produce more, and, hence, shift her income level. Just like her previous Kiva loans, Alice has promised to repay this loan.
