A loan helped to buy fabric and sewing thread.

Aidah's story

Aidah is 25 years old and lives in the town of Wobulenzi, located in the Luwero region of Uganda. For the past five years, she has been working hard to manage her tailoring business, which offers sewing services and sells dresses, skirts and tops.

To help expand her business, Aidah has requested a loan of 1,000,000 Ugandan Shillings from BRAC Uganda. She will use it to buy fabric and sewing thread, which will help her to generate greater profits.

Aidah will use her business profits to buy personal items such as clothes, pay house bills and provide her family with basic needs such as food, thereby improving their standard of living.

Aidah hopes that in the future she will be able to open up a bigger tailoring shop in order to generate more income.

Aidah is a member of BRAC's Empowerment and Livelihood for Adolescents (ELA) program. In addition to microfinance loans, the program provides both a safe place for young Ugandan women to take part in group activities and a forum for life-skills training.
