Total loan: $700

Eldoret, Rift Valley, Rift Valley, Kenya / Agriculture

Sarah's loan finished fundraising,
but these similar borrowers just need a little more help to reach their goals!

A loan helped to purchase farm inputs such as high-nutrient fertilizers and certified seeds.

Sarah's story

Sarah, age 42, is a mom with children, 3 of whom attend school. She is a resourceful and hardworking mom who resides in a remote village in Eldoret. In this region, job opportunities are very scarce, and the level of poverty has hit the moon.

Sarah is honest and gives everything to support her children. With very few resources, she has pulled through.

She is involved in dairy and maize farming. Her work brings home important income. She gets help with the work from family members.

Sarah is seeking a loan to purchase farming inputs such as high-nutrient fertilizers and certified seeds to improve her farm yield and make more profits from sales to support her family. She also plans to use part of the money to pay laborers, loaders, and transporters. Sarah is optimistic that this year's harvest will be better than last season's.

Income from her dairy business will be used to make initial loan repayments until the crops are harvested and sold.

Most microfinance organizations, particularly in her area of Kenya, don’t give loans to smallholder farmers, but Juhudi Kilimo stands out and is different. It is expanding into this market and is happy to provide Kiva lenders with the opportunity to support Kenyan smallholder farmers.

Sarah is very thankful for your warm consideration and helping hand. Be inspired; make a loan this month of love.
