Alice's loan finished fundraising,
but these similar borrowers just need a little more help to reach their goals!

A loan helped to buy different types of cereals to sell to her customers and make more profits to take care of her children.

Alice's story

Alice is a mother of four children who has made tremendous progress in her family, thanks to previous Kiva loans. She is a smallholder farmer full of dreams and aspirations in her life. She resides in a remote village in the lush hills of Nyamira, in the Nyanza region of Kenya. As the key breadwinner of her family, she has been practicing mixed farming for more than eight years. She continually makes an effort to build strong relationships because reputation is everything in her line of work.

Given that Alice can arrange a sale more easily than regular farmers, she prefers to deal with larger volumes of produce. She is seeking a loan to buy cereals from local farmers at fair prices. She will use her better understanding of the market conditions and prices to sell it at a profit. This loan will help her clients to focus on production rather than sales, and it will help her family to earn a better income to uplift their lives. Unlike banks and other local money lenders who operate mainly in urban centres, Juhudi Kilimo (a Kiva field partner) has extended its operations to the most remote areas of Kenya, creating opportunities to different people to access loans.
