A loan helped purchase a large quantity of tape to securely close purified water containers.

Las Gardenias De La Esperanza Group's story

Guatemala is experiencing one of its worst droughts in decades. Waterborne illnesses are common because of reduced access to clean water. Anadelis is 25 years old and has a business selling purified water. She is the Secretary of the Friendship Bridge Trust Bank loan group “Las Gardenias de la Esperanza” in the department/state of Quetzaltenango. Anadelis has two employees and delivers water to three nearby towns. She is a single mother with a 21-month-old son and she lives with her parents.

Anadelis is requesting a loan to buy a large quantity of tape to securely close the caps of her large containers of purified water. She will also buy some needed tools. This will be her first loan. Anadelis participates in educational services offered through Trust Bank meetings. This is the backbone of the “Microcredit Plus” program of loans, education and health care services. Everyday topics like nutrition, hygiene, health are vital to the success of our ladies and their families. Learning about effective business management practices like planning, budgeting, investing are essential to empower Anadelis and her friends, who run small businesses such as selling food, convenience stores, selling tortillas, traditional clothing and jewelry. Anadelis shares that she appreciates learning about the dangers of over-indebtedness and how to invest effectively in her business. Every other month, the women have access to basic health care services.

Kiva investors, partnering with Friendship Bridge, give these ladies much hope for a brighter future. Thank you!
