Johnson's loan finished fundraising, but these other borrowers need your support

A loan helped to purchase a biodigester to power his farm with biogas and stop cutting trees.

Johnson's story

Johnson lives in Kiambu. Similar to many farmers in his region, he used to buy firewood to power his farm, but this has become a problem - now trees are scarce, making it more difficult for farmers to have affordable access to energy. Johnson plans to use a Sistema Biobolsa biodigester to eliminate the use of wood, fossil fuels and chemical fertilizers from his farm.

With his 8 cubic meter Sistema Biobolsa, he will transform his cows manure into renewable energy and organic fertilizer, he and his family will be able to cook without smoke and will stop spending time chopping wood. Johnson’s family will also increase vegetable productivity with the organic fertilizer that the biodigester will produce and give back to the soil the nutrients needed to reforest Kiambu.

This loan represents 62% of the full price of the biodigester; the remaining part was covered by a cash down payment and a government subsidy.
