Sopha's story

Sopha is 46 years old and a married woman with two children, who are attending school. She has a small piece of land where she grows rice to sell every harvest season. Farming is the important source of the family's income. She has been doing this for more than 10 years. Her husband helps her to earn more additional income by working as a construction worker in her community. Both of them can make a net income of only USD 9 per day.

Due to the shortage of her finances, Sopha has applied for a loan in the amount of USD 600 to drill a well and install a hand pump well on the top of the drilled well. She's hoping that she won't face a water shortage in the future and that she won't have to spend much time collecting water from the far-distant areas anymore.

In the future, she wants to buy more land for farming and to push her children to continue studying at university.

Sopha expresses her thanks to all Kiva lenders for showing their interest in poor people like her.
