Mujeres Poderosas Group's story

The two women in the group Mujeres Poderosas (Powerful Women) live in El Tejar, Chimaltenango, Guatemala. They are starting their second cycle with the Namaste Creating Prosperity Program. Both women have small stores and one also makes and sells tortillas. They learned a lot during their first cycle and each increased her earnings considerably. Now they are eager for more financial literacy training and more visits from their personal business advisor.

Adelaida is 56 years old, married with children who have graduated from high school. All are on their own except for the youngest daughter who still lives at home and helps with her mother’s business. Adelaida went to school for only one year. Her business is a small store selling daily household necessities that is located in the front room of her home. During her first cycle with Namaste she learned to set regular hours for her store, to stock items her clients request, to reinvest in her business and to keep her business and personal money separate. She will use her loan to buy additional groceries and seasonal items. Her goal is to have a more profitable business so she can save money for the future.

When she started with Namaste her monthly net profit was 1,551 Guatemalan Quetzales ($201). At the end of the first cycle that had increased to Q. 2,875 ($373). She hopes to increase that further to Q. 3,295 ($428) by the end of this cycle.
