Maimuna's loan finished fundraising,
but these similar borrowers just need a little more help to reach their goals!

A loan helped to purchase more green bananas, cassavas, and tomatoes.

Maimuna's story

Maimuna is 20 years old and lives in the town of Kaliro in the Iganga region of Uganda. For the past two years, she has been working hard to manage her grocery store, which sells green bananas (plantains) Irish potatoes, tomatoes, etc.

To help expand her business, Maimuna has requested a loan of 900,000 UGX (Ugandan Shillings) from BRAC Uganda. The loan will be used to purchase more green bananas, cassavas, and tomatoes to increase on her sales. This will help her to generate greater profits, and her production will increase and attract more revenue. She will manage to buy food for her family and clothes for herself. Maimuna hopes that in the future, she will be able to buy a plot of land and build a house for her family.

Maimuna is a member of BRAC's Empowerment and Livelihood for Adolescents (ELA) program. In addition to microfinance loans, the program provides both a safe place for young Ugandan women to take part in group activities, and a forum for life-skills training.
