Mujeres Unidas De Xecorral Group's loan finished fundraising, but these other borrowers need your support

A loan helped with a 2nd loan from Kiva, to buy pigs, chickens, and food to feed the animals.

Mujeres Unidas De Xecorral Group's story

Women in the rural area of the Department / State of Quetzaltenango have found an opportunity to generate income in agricultural and textile businesses, without having to neglect their homes. Santos, a 45-year-old married woman, is one of these women. She is the secretary of the Community Bridge Friendship Bank "Women United of Xecorral." Santos started three years ago with the chicken and pig breeding business. In this business she has found integral development, generates income, and takes development to her three children older than 7 years. All of Santos' children attend primary and secondary school. She needs to increase the amount of animals in her pens. With the 2nd loan from Kiva, Santos can buy pigs, chickens, and food to feed the animals.

Seven Maya K’iche women belong to this communal bank. They raise animals, sew traditional clothing and textiles. Since Santos and the other women have little education, monthly training is very important for them. A facilitator shares relevant information with them using images, drawings, role plays. They learn to effectively manage their businesses, take care of themselves and their families. Every two months, women have access to basic health services. Friendship Bridge calls the combination of loans, educational training and health "Microcredit Plus." (The girl in the picture is the daughter of one of the clients of the communal bank).

Thank you, Kiva lenders, for your kindness in financing these much-needed loans for Mayan women!
