Sofi's loan finished fundraising,
but these similar borrowers just need a little more help to reach their goals!

A loan helped to buy more groundnuts.

Sofi's story

Sofi is 21 years old and lives in the town of Iganga, in the Iganga region of Uganda. For the past three years, Sofi has been working hard to manage her food business, which sells groundnuts.

To help expand her business, Sofi has requested a loan of 1,500,000 UGX from BRAC Uganda. The loan will be used to buy more groundnuts and will help Sofi to generate greater profits.

Using the profits of the business, Sofi will be able to buy for herself personal items like clothes and sanitary towels, pay house bills, and provide basic needs for her family, thereby, improving on their standards of living.

Sofi hopes that, in the future, she will be able to open up a store for her food crops in order to generate more income.

Sofi is a member of BRAC's Empowerment and Livelihood for Adolescents (ELA) program. In addition to microfinance loans, the program provides both a safe place for young Ugandan women to take part in group activities and a forum for life-skills training.
