Nuevo Progreso Group's loan finished fundraising, but these other borrowers need your support

A loan helped to buy a variety of cloth and thread cones for her clothing manufacturing business.

Nuevo Progreso Group's story

Laura, 23 years old, is a young entrepreneur who is the treasurer of the Community Bank of Puente de Amistad Nuevo Progreso. She attended school until the sixth grade, is single and lives with her parents.

With the mentality of covering her own expenses and supporting her family in the home economy, she learned to use the sewing machine to sew clothes.

With the passage of time she started her own clothing manufacturing business. She makes and sells the pants per dozen in the community market.

This is the second Kiva loan that Laura is requesting. She will use the capital to buy a variety of cloth and thread cones to continue making new pants designs for the cold season.

Laura and seven other women from this communal bank are from the department (state) of Totonicapán. They speak the K'iche' language and all are dedicated to making cloth pants.

These women attended some grade of primary school. They continue to learn in their monthly educational training. The issues of business management practices, health, hygiene, nutrition and self-esteem are very important for them.

Every two months, the women have access to basic health care services and receive pap tests and other tests. The combination of loans, education and health care services is called Microcredit Plus.

Kiva lenders are very supportive for women like Laura for reaching their goals.
