Bénita M., aged 46, is the manager of the Community Bank named “Joyeux Lutins Plus”. It is composed of twenty-nine members united in solidarity for receiving Kiva loans with the goal of developing their businesses. Bénita has been a part of the micro-enterprise world for years. She sells salted and smoked fish, palm oil and doughnuts. Her business is located to the east of Kinshasa. Bénita has already received two loans from the micro-finance institute HOPE DRC and has repaid them correctly. The loan she’ll obtain this time will be used to buy more goods to sell retail with the goal of increasing her profits. Her business generates a profit of $102 per week. Bénita is divorced and the mother of four children whose ages range between 9 and 20. All four of them go to school.
