Mujeres Del Milagro Group's story

Miriam, 47, is part of the Community Bank of Friendship Bridge "Women of the Miracle." She shares: "I grew up in a home where my parents provided me with education until 9th grade and also taught me to forge a business for the future." She is very excited to see that the business of selling food and natural fruit ice cream is a success. She wants to take advantage of the great demand in this school year and offer a variety of products to her clientele. For this reason, Miriam is requesting her 2nd Kiva loan. She plans to buy 1 industrial stove, pots, and ingredients to continue preparing her recipes. Miriam was widowed 8 years ago and is getting ahead with her 4 children over 18. Miriam uses part of the income to send her 2 minor children to primary and secondary school.

There are 7 women in this communal bank who have businesses such as the sale of bread, traditional blouse embroidery, food, and fruit ice cream. They are originally from the Department (state) of Chimaltenango and speak the Kaqchikel language. These women meet monthly to make loan payments and then participate in educational trainings that help them make sound decisions about business, health, family affairs, and women's issues. Every two months, they have access to basic health services. The useful combination of loans, education, and medical care is called by Friendship Bridge "Microcredit Plus."

Thank you to the lenders of Kiva for supporting the development of these visionary women!
