A loan helped to buy more inventory for her convenience store!

Santa Lucia Group's story

The Friendship Bridge “Microcredit Plus” program of loans, educational trainings and health care provides programs and services that create opportunities so that families can build sustainable futures in Guatemala. The 30,000 ladies who participate in the program are proud of their success. The young 26-year-old Eloisa, the President of the Friendship Bridge Trust Bank “Santa Lucia”, is one of these empowered women. She shares, “I have the opportunity to run my convenience store. Part of my income goes to the educational expenses of my younger brothers and sisters. I also help my parents pay for water and electricity.” Her short term goal is to increase sales in the store. With her first KIVA loan, Eloisa wants to buy more inventory like coffee, cereals, dairy products, grains, oil and sausages at the wholesale level.

Monthly non-formal educational trainings are part of the “Microcredit Plus” program of Friendship Bridge and essential to the success of over 30,000 underserved ladies. The trainings are about effective business practices, health, family matters and women’s issues. They are designed by a facilitator who uses role playing, games, pictures and diagrams to share the information. Every other month, the women have access to basic health care exams. KIVA investors, partnering with Friendship Bridge, are highly valued by Eloisa and her friends. Thank you, KIVA investors!
