Elizabeth's story

2020 is here with us and Elizabeth(45 years old mom of 5) is so happy because through this loan her planting season of 2020 will be bumper. She is a smallholder farmer from the Eldoret are of Kenya where many mothers suffer because of a lack of access to a reliable source of finance. One objective that Juhudi Kilimo aims at fulfilling is increasing the ease of accessing farm inputs and income-generating assets for farmers. Through the intervention of Juhudi Kilimo and Kiva, inputs such as fertilizers and seeds have become more accessible to its members. Elizabeth is a zealous mom and one of these residents. She started farming few years ago on a small plot she acquired. On the farm, she has dairy cows and a small garden. Filled with determination to better her family's conditions while not being deterred by her poor financial status, Elizabeth has decided to expand her existing farm. She is seeking a loan to buy seeds and expand her crop farming. Because of the favorable weather and road conditions, Elizabeth will have an easy time transporting her crop products to the market. Loans are hard to come by in Kenya for a poor mom and small farmer with little but irregular income and no solid collateral. A few organizations, such as Juhudi Kilimo, support farmers like Elizabeth. Through this loan, her dream of seeing her children graduate from school will be achieved.
