Dorcas's loan finished fundraising,
but these similar borrowers just need a little more help to reach their goals!

A loan helped to buy inputs such as fertilizers, pesticides and herbicides to use on her farm so that she can increase her productivity.

Dorcas's story

Dorcas (pictured above alongside her child) is a 56 year repeat kiva borrower living in Nyamira, a town surrounded by prime agricultural lands which favor large-scale grain farming, dairy and horticultural farming. She is one of the most respected women in her area because of her passion for work and discipline. When she learned about Juhudi and Kiva, from a Juhudi Kilimo loan officer, she became interested in the good work that Kiva does to support smallholder farmers. She is happy that she has reliable micro-financing and has attended regular training sessions to ensure that she learns about savings and loans. On her farm, she has been keeping dairy cows and nurturing the growth of various crops. The main challenge that this enterprising woman has often complained of, is the high cost of farming inputs in her area. She has requested this loan so that she can buy quality farming inputs such as fertilizer, pesticides and herbicides, which she plans to use on her farm. With these inputs, Dorcas will be assured of a good harvest, which will consequently reflect in her pocket. Lenders, if there is someone you should lend to this 2020, then that person is Dorcas!
