Mujeres De Pamaxan Group's story

Delicious traditional foods are sold by vendors who set up their food stands on the street. The pungent aroma of roasted corn sprinkled with lime, chile and mayonnaise, grilled meats and chicken, as well as fried potatoes crispy tostadas and tamales tempt those passing by.

Ana, a member of the Friendship Bridge Trust Bank “Mujeres de Pamaxan” has a food stand. She is 26 years old, married and mother of 3 children who range in age from 5-9. She understands the tremendous value of education and is earmarking some of her income towards the education of her children. She is requesting her 1st KIVA loan to buy tables, chairs, baskets to carry ingredients, pots/pans and a variety of spices.

The 8 ladies in the group are determined to succeed and the “Microcredit Plus” program of loans, education and health care services helps them achieve their goals. The monthly educational themes cover an aspect of 4 topics: business management, health, family, women. They are designed and led by a Facilitator who uses pictures, diagrams, role playing and games to share the information. Every other month, the women have access to basic health care services.

Ana and her friends are building a brighter future for themselves, their families and their community in the rural area of Suchitepequez. KIVA investors, partnering with Friendship Bridge, are much appreciated by each of them. Thank you and Happy New Year!
