Mar Azul Group's loan finished fundraising, but these other borrowers need your support

A loan helped , Beatriz, to buy buckets, pots/pans, ingredients and packages of personal care products.

Mar Azul Group's story

Although she only has 4 years of formal education, Beatriz has been elected Secretary of her Friendship Bridge Trust Bank “Mar Azul” or “Blue Sea” located in a rural area in the department/state of Suchitepéquez.

Beatriz, who is a dedicated 34 year old woman, works with her husband in two businesses: selling delicious regional foods and personal care products by catalogue. Her income goes toward the education of her 3 children who range in age from 6-18.

Beatriz decided that it is time to make upgrades to her food stand. She is requesting a KIVA loan to buy buckets, pots/pans, ingredients for her recipes as well as packages of personal care products.

Beatriz and the other ladies in the group are anxious to have plenty of inventory available, especially at this time of the year. They have prepared food to sell but they also sell bread, kitchen utensils, chicken by the pound, and plastic items.

They look forward to their monthly meetings when they make loan payments and participate in educational training. Those are designed by a Facilitator who uses role playing, games, pictures and diagrams to share the information. Topics are interesting like health, nutrition, hygiene and the use of medicinal plants.

The women also gain effective business practices like budgeting, planning, investing and savings. They also have access to basic health care services. The combination of loans, education and health care is called “Microcredit Plus”.

Thank you, KIVA investors for funding these much needed loans!!!
