Flor De Paz Group's story

Colorful traditional textile fabrication is what many who live in the department/state of Solola do to earn a living.
This is what Lucia, the President of the Friendship Bridge Trust Bank “Flor de Paz” or “Flower of Peace” does to help fund the expenses of her family.

Lucia is 27 years old, married and has 3 children who range in age from 3-7. She embroiders traditional wrap around skirts or “cortes”, as well as elaborate blouses or “huilipes”. Her goals are to continue to fund the education of her oldest son who currently attends school as well as the younger ones who are not old enough to attend school. Lucia, along with her husband, want to be sure that all of their expenses are covered! She is currently requesting her 5th KIVA loan to buy a large quantity of high quality threads in many colors.

Lucia calls the monthly Trust Bank meetings to order and make loan payments. Then, they participate in educational trainings, part of the “Microcredit Plus” program of loans, education and health care services. Topics like business management, health, nutrition, hygiene, as well as women’s rights/roles are relevant to their lives. Since they have little or no formal education, these sessions are essential to their success! Every other month, the women have access to basic heath-care services. They may have blood pressure tests, Pap tests, breast exams and other essential services.

Lucia and her friends send their gratitude to each KIVA investor!
