Reacheal's Group's story

Reacheal's group is composed of three hardworking women. Reacheal is 24 years old and lives in the town of Kaliro in the Iganga region of Uganda. She is married and has two children, with one of them currently in school. For the past three years, Reacheal has been working hard to manage her fish-selling business, where she sells smoked fish.

To help expand her business, Reacheal has requested a share of a loan of 2,400,000 Ugandan shillings from BRAC Uganda. The loan will be used to purchase more fish to sell, and will help Reacheal to generate greater profits and manage to buy food for her family.

Reacheal hopes that in the future she will be able to have the biggest fish business in the entire community and also buy a plot of land and build a house.

Reacheal is a member of BRAC's Empowerment and Livelihood for Adolescents (ELA) program. In addition to microfinance loans, the program provides both a safe place for young Ugandan women to take part in group activities, and a forum for life-skills training.
