Santo Tomas Group's loan finished fundraising,
but these similar borrowers just need a little more help to reach their goals!

A loan helped to buy a large quantity of traditional textiles, as well as thread in various colors.

Santo Tomas Group's story

Traditional Guatemalan textiles, woven with bold colors and beautiful patterns, are unique and admired. Maria, the president of the Friendship Bridge Trust Bank, Santo Tomas, sells traditional textiles in her local market, located in a rural area in the department/state of Quiche. She also embroiders bedspreads. Maria envisions being able to employ other women who will be able to support their own families.

She is requesting her second Kiva loan to buy a large quantity of the latest fashion of traditional textiles, as well as thread in various colors. Part of her income will be earmarked toward the continuing education of her three children, who range in age from six to nine.

The six Maya K’iche ladies in the Trust Bank have tortilla shops and weave or sell traditional textiles. They are proud to contribute income to cover the expenses of their households. They also appreciate their monthly educational trainings, part of the Microcredit Plus program of loans, education, and healthcare services. They gather effective business management tools, such as budgeting and planning, and learn to care for their families more effectively (nutrition, hygiene), gaining self esteem. Every other month, the ladies have access to basic healthcare services provided by a visiting nurse, who speaks their Maya K’iche language.

Thank you Kiva investors for the kind role you play in the lives of Maria and her friends. They are poised to step into a brighter future because of your generosity.
