Zafiro Group's loan finished fundraising,
but these similar borrowers just need a little more help to reach their goals!

A loan helped to buy a blender, mixer, chairs, tables, as well as more pigs to raise.

Zafiro Group's story

The Treasurer of the Bank of Confidence of the Friendship Bridge "Sapphire" which means "Sapphire" is Maria, 33 years old. She is married and has 4 children (1-8). A year ago she started two businesses selling delicious regional food and raising pigs.

Now, it is time for both businesses to expand and with additional capital they will grow. She is applying for a loan from KIVA and plans to buy a blender, blender, chairs, tables for her food business, as well as more pigs for fattening and selling. Maria is committed to financing the present and future educational needs of her children.

Maria is one of 8 ladies in the Trust Bank who support their households and sell from their homes or markets. In spite of the fact that they have little or no formal education, they are determined and bright.

The women benefit greatly from their monthly educational trainings that give them the tools (planning, budgeting, investing, savings) they need to be successful entrepreneurs. They invest their loans in the animal husbandry, prepared food, traditional textile businesses. Others sell firewood and beans/corn. They also learn about health practices, and self esteem/empowerment.

Every other month, the ladies have access to health care services. Friendship Bridge calls this effective combination of loans, education and health care “Microcredit Plus”.

Thank you, KIVA investors, for the crucial role you play in the lives of Maria and her friends.
