La Ceiba De Coatepeque Group's story

Alba is one of 11 ladies in the Friendship Bridge Trust Bank “La Ceiba de Coatepeque in the department/state of Quetzaltenango. Alba is 39 years old, married, and has four children.

Alba has a stand in a local market where she sells women’s sandals and clothing. Her goal is to expand her business and open up additional stands where she can sell more merchandise.

Alba shares, ”I am really proud, because thanks to my business, I am able to help my husband with expenses and our children can attend school.”

Alba is requesting her first Kiva loan to buy women’s sandals, blouses, and skirts in different sizes and colors at the wholesale level.

The women in this Trust Bank have little or no formal education and benefit greatly from their monthly educational trainings, part of the “Microcredit Plus” program of loans, education, and health care services.

Learning about effective business practices helps the ladies manage their convenience stores, small food stands, and clothing/shoe businesses.

Every two months, they have the opportunity to meet with a visiting nurse who offers tests such as blood pressure, Pap tests, and family planning.

Kiva investors, partnering with Friendship Bridge, give these women real hope for a brighter future benefiting themselves, their families, and their community.

Thank you, Kiva investors, for lending a helping hand to Alba and her friends!
