Gladys's loan finished fundraising, but these other borrowers need your support

A loan helped to buy farm inputs, such as fertilizer and seeds, to enable a repeat Kiva borrower with a good credit history to grow more crops.

Gladys's story

Dear Kiva community, Gladys (a 66-year-old mom of two) is a hardworking mother from a remote village in the Nyamira area of Kenya. Thanks to her daily efforts, she has managed to give her children a good start by providing them with a good quality education.

Gladys has a farm where she grows crops and raises livestock; she also earns some income from a personal business. She never had a formal education and is content with the farming lifestyle.

The Nyamira area is a favorable one for farming, so she is seeking a 50,000 KES loan through Kiva's field partner Juhudi Kilimo to buy farm inputs, such as fertilizer and seeds, to enable her to grow more crops, reap maximum profits, and expand her business.

Being a poor woman and accessing funds in Kenya, especially around her remote village, is very challenging, but Gladys feels relieved knowing there are institutions such as Kiva that help enterprising women like herself. She is always working to improve her children’s living conditions, but her biggest dreams are to become independent, to secure her children’s future, and to buy a home.

She is a repeat Kiva borrower who has a good credit history and is worth supporting.
