Las Frutas Group's story

Guatemala is a country that is characterized by its colors and its products full of history. There are different markets located throughout the country that are considered emblematic for the products they sell and for their beautiful landscapes. One of these markets is located in the Department of Quiché. In this place you can see how women display their merchandise in the street and there they offer a variety of textile products, fruits, vegetables and regional food.

For Griselda, the secretary of the Community Bank of Friendship Bridge "Las Frutas", it is very helpful to go to sell 3 times a week in the market. She is 31 years old, single mother of a 3-year-old girl and lives with her parents. To make a living and offer better living conditions to her daughter, Griselda sells fruit and vegetables. To continue to offer these products, she is requesting the 1st Kiva loan to buy a variety of fruit.

There are 7 women who work hard to create commercial opportunities to sell fruits, vegetables and flowers. By belonging to this communal bank, Griselda has not only been able to access credit, but will also have the opportunity to receive training in business, health and personal development. Puente de Amistad organizes these monthly trainings every time women meet to pay part of their loan. Griselda is eager to learn new business and investment strategies.

The helping hand between Kiva and Puente de Amistad lenders makes it possible for women to achieve successful futures.
