Mujeres La Fe Alotenango Group's story

Verónica is the treasurer of the Community Bank of Friendship Bridge Mujeres la Fe Alotenango group. She is 36 years old and married. Verónica lives with her husband and has five children, ages six to 19. She runs a small restaurant where she sells delicious breakfasts, opening at 4 in the morning. The money Verónica earns is essential to support her husband and their family. This year, she was able to provide for the primary and secondary education for all her children.

Verónica is requesting a loan to buy tables and chairs for her restaurant. This will be her third loan. There are seven women who comprise the Community Bank of Friendship Bridge Mujeres la Fe Alotenango group. They live in the the state of Chimaltenango, in a small community that is 30 minutes from the main town, along a paved road. Group members have a variety of small businesses such as selling delicious regional food, operating general stores, selling basic grains such as corn and beans, and running small restaurants. They support each other in monthly meetings where they learn about effective business practices, good health habits, the rights and roles of women and other informative topics. Recently, the group learned about the dangers of over-indebtedness and the importance of making quick loan payments. Every two months, they have access to basic health services.

The Mujeres la Fe Alotenango group thanks Kiva lenders for supporting these women and financing their loans!
