Kat's story

I grew up on the Southside of Chicago by a single mother of five who received her GED at a late age and was not raised to have an entrepreneur spirit. She was still determined to set an example of how hard work pays off so she went back to school and became a registered nurse. I watched my mother work 7 days a week and 16 hour shifts, miss basketball games dance recitals and birthdays in order to provide for her children. This convinced me that there has to be a better way so after high school I was the first and only of my siblings to go away to college where I studied business management, health and fitness. When I came home from college my mother was not encouraging of my idea of opening up a juice bar so I applied to the police department. I currently work as an officer who runs a juice bar business on the side. My goal is to make a believer out of a little girl or boy who's dreams of becoming a business owner one day are not encouraged by their parents or their peers. I want to be able to set an example and be of encouragement because I too am that little girl. My dream is run a success business that will allow me to work only there, to give back to the community, be able to watch my children grow and to be able to say to my mother one day you did it, I did it, WE DID IT!
