Annet's loan finished fundraising, but these other borrowers need your support

A loan helped to purchase more shampoo, petroleum jelly, braids and weaves for her beauty salon.

Annet's story

Annet is 23 years old and lives in the town of Mubende in the Kisekende region of Uganda. She is married and has one child, who is currently in school. For the past two years, Annet has been working hard to manage her beauty salon, which offers services like plaiting, weaves and hair treatments.

To help expand her business, Annet has requested a loan of 800,000 Ugandan shillings from BRAC Uganda. The loan will be used to purchase more shampoo, petroleum jelly, braids and weaves and it will help Annet generate greater profits. Annet will use the profits to assist her husband in paying school fees for their child, buying clothes and other personal items for herself, paying house bills, and providing food and basic needs for the family. These investments will improve the family's standards of living. Annet hopes, in the future, she will be able to buy a plot of land.

Annet is a member of BRAC's Empowerment and Livelihood for Adolescents program. In addition to microfinance loans, the program provides both a safe place for young Ugandan women to take part in group activities and a forum for life-skills training.
