Martha María's story

The city of Portoviejo was affected by the earthquake of April 16, 2016. The city is rich in the production of vegetables, legumes and tropical fruits for domestic consumption.

Martha María is 40 years old, in a common-law marriage, and from this relationship has four children of whom two are adults and independent and two are ages 14 and 5 and study in secondary and primary school. Her spouse works at odd jobs and is a gardener. They live in a borrowed house owned by a relative.

Every day, Martha works selling products from Yanbal catalogs (beauty products, cosmetics, perfume, and women's accessories). She sells for two to three hours each day, making rounds through various sectors and also sells at her house. She leaves them on credit and collects weekly. She also makes food on the weekends, she prepares baked pig's head and black pudding and sells them at her house and makes deliveries to homes with the help of her spouse.

With this new loan, she will purchase groceries, perfume, jewelry, deodorant, etc. Her dream is to own a house and that her family continues being very healthy.
