01_Khotte Group's story

This banc villageois, which has existed since January 2001, includes this group of four dynamic women who live in the same village. They are relatives, friends, and neighbours, united by a strong solidarity; their main work is trade and livestock.

Khotte is 64 years old and the group's representative; she's on the right of the photo with her hand raised. She is married and mother of five children including four boys. She sells cereals and vegetables in front of her house. She has also opened a shop selling baby items at the market, which is managed by her son. She capitalises well on 10 years of experience.

With her loan she plans to buy large amounts of clothing, shoes, packs of nappies, and ranges of toiletry items to keep her store well-stocked. She will also buy sacks of vegetables, 10 sacks of cereals (millet, maize), two sacks of sugar, and five sacks of charcoal. She is doing very well because her house is located in a busy area of the village, and the porridge that she makes is enjoyed by many local residents.

Her profits will enable her to build up her savings, to pay into tontines, and to help her husband with household expenses.
