Las Mariposas De Momos Group's loan finished fundraising,
but these similar borrowers just need a little more help to reach their goals!

A loan helped to invest in the purchase of cotton at the wholesale level.

Las Mariposas De Momos Group's story

This is the first loan from Kiva that Maria, the secretary of the Community Bank of Friendship Bridge “Las Mariposas de Momos,” requests from Kiva lenders.

Maria is 32 years old, married, and with her husband has four children (ages 6 to 13). Maria has three years of formal education and her biggest dream is to see her children complete high school.

This circumstance prompted María 10 years ago to open a business. She has installed a small workshop in her house where they make cotton pillows with an employee.

In order to increase her income, she wants to take advantage of the end-of-the-year parties and sell more pillows. Maria offers this product in the market of the department/state of Totonicapán, where she is originally from.

Maria's desire is to invest in the purchase of cotton at the wholesale level.

This communal bank is made up of seven visionary women, who manage small businesses that include the sale of natural medicine, bedspreads, pillows, and the sale of flowers.

They seek a Kiva loan to inject capital into their businesses and generate higher income. Women participate in the program known as "Microcredit Plus", which is part of the Friendship Bridge initiative, to empower women like Maria.

They receive important information on investment, savings, and avoiding over-indebtedness. Every two months, they also participate in family planning health sessions, glucose tests, and blood pressure.

Thanks to all the Kiva lenders that make this financing possible.
