Retishia's loan finished fundraising, but these other borrowers need your support

A loan helped to buy more fresh varieties of food like maize flour, green bananas and beans, as well as saucepans and plates.

Retishia's story

Retishia is 25 years old and lives in the town of Abaita Ababiri in the Abaita Ababiri region of Uganda. She has 2 children with 1 of them currently in school. For the past 5 years, Retishia has been working hard to manage her restaurant, which sells cooked food and soft drinks.

To help expand her business, Retishia has requested a loan of 1,200,000 Ugandan Shillings from BRAC Uganda. The loan will be used to buy more fresh varieties of food like maize flour, green bananas and beans, as well as saucepans, plates and charcoal. This will help Retishia to generate greater profits and improve on her family's standard of living by providing them with enough food. Retishia hopes that in the future she will be able to own a very big restaurant.

Retishia is a member of BRAC's Empowerment and Livelihood for Adolescents (ELA) program. In addition to microfinance loans, the program provides both a safe place for young Ugandan women to take part in group activities and a forum for life-skills training.
