A loan helped to repair the warehouse for agricultural supplies.

Javier's story

Javier, 40, is single and lives in his own house in the community of Santiago Grande which is part of the Province of Nor Yungas, city of La Paz, Bolivia.

He is hardworking and for 20 years has made a living from agriculture, in particular from growing coca leaf, one the most important food sources in the area where he lives, and that has grown for centuries in this region of Bolivia (municipality of Coroico, city of La Paz).

This plant is called coca and its leaf possesses proteins, vitamins, and minerals that make it not only an excellent nutritional alternative, but also a way to cure different ailments. The coca leaf is consumed by chewing it or making tea (coca mate).

Javier works everyday from 8 am until 6 pm and sells his production in the local markets in the province.

This is the first time Javier requests a loan so he can repair the warehouse where he stores his agricultural production.

His objective is to increase his income and buy more hectares of agricultural land, and this way secure a stable life for his elder years.
