Mariam's loan finished fundraising, but these other borrowers need your support

A loan helped a single mom to buy farm inputs such as fertilizer to enable her to grow more bananas.

Mariam's story

Hello, Kiva community!

Mariam (a 35-year-old single mom of four) is a mother from a remote village in the Maua area of Kenya. She is a very hardworking person.

Thanks to her daily efforts, she has managed to give her lovely children a good start by providing them with a good quality education.

Mariam’s primary sources of income are banana, crops, and animal farming. She also earns some income from a personal business. She never had a formal education and is content with the farming lifestyle.

The Maua area is a favorable area for farming, so she is seeking a loan to buy farm inputs such as fertilizer to enable her to grow more bananas, reap maximum profits, and increase her banana business.

Being a woman and accessing funds in Kenya, especially in the Maua area, is very challenging, but Mariam feels relieved knowing there are institutions such as Kiva that help enterprising women like her.

Her goal is to improve her living conditions and secure the future of her children. Her biggest dreams are to be able to support her family by herself, to become independent, and to buy a home.

Mariam is counting on your help and hopes for your attention.
