Mercy's loan finished fundraising, but these other borrowers need your support

A loan helped to buy farming inputs to help improve her production, so she can use the profits to take care of her aging parents and children.

Mercy's story

Mercy is a 33-year-old mom of four. Her knowledge of farming was gathered and increased through interactions with her parents, who were crop and dairy farmers. Through farming, she has turned her life around. She is a farmer from a remote village in the Bomet area of Kenya, where she lives with her husband and children.

Today, this humble mother sells milk and a variety of food crops. She is a passionate farmer and, because of the immense knowledge she has of farming, she commands a lot of respect from other farmers in her village. Mercy's work brings home important income. She gets help with the work from her family members.

Mercy is seeking a loan to purchase quality farm inputs. She will use the money from the loan to buy farming inputs to help improve her production, so she can use the profits to take care of her aging parents and children. Mercy is optimistic that this year's harvest will be better than last season's.

Income from the dairy business will be used to make initial loan repayments until the crops are harvested and sold. Most microfinance organizations, particularly in the Bomet area of Kenya, don’t give loans to smallholder farmers, but Juhudi Kilimo is standing out and is different. Juhudi Kilimo is expanding into this market and is happy to provide Kiva lenders with the opportunity to support Kenyan smallholder farmers.

Mercy is very thankful for your warm consideration and helping hand. Be inspired; make a loan!
