Estrellas De Paquixiq Group's story

This is a very busy time of year for many of the entrepreneurs of Friendship Bridge. One of them, Juana, is the Secretary of the Trust Bank “Estrellas de Paquixiq”, located in a rural area in the department/state of Totonicapan. She is 20 years old, married and has three children who range in age from four months to six years of age. Her older son is in kindergarten. Juana sells blouses, lycra clothing and dresses from a storefront on the coast. Her husband also sells clothing on the street. Juana is requesting her first Kiva loan to buy a variety of clothing that her customers will want for the holiday season!

Juana only has two years of formal education but, along with the other 11 Maya K‘iche ladies in the group, benefits greatly from her monthly educational trainings, part of the “Microcredit Plus” program (loans, education, health care) of Friendship Bridge. The information on budgeting, investing and savings helps the women manage their traditional clothing, tortilla, peanut and tailoring businesses. They also learn about an aspect of three other topics: health, family, women. Juana mentions that she especially appreciates learning how to invest effectively and grow her funds. (Some of the Trust Bank members have brought their children who appear in the photograph to the meeting!)

These women are tremendously appreciative to participate in the program. They send their “thank yous” to Kiva investors from all corners of the world!
